RCB Sets a Competitive Total in IPL Clash
Bangalore (Karnataka) [India], April 10: In a thrilling encounter at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Tim David's explosive finishing helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) post a total of 163 runs for 7 wickets in their 24th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel chose to bowl first against RCB.
RCB's innings began with Virat Kohli and Phil Salt at the crease. Salt provided a brisk start, scoring 30 runs off Mitchell Starc in the third over before being run out in the fourth over, contributing 37 runs off 17 balls.
Devdutt Padikkal joined Kohli but had a brief stay, dismissed by Mukesh Kumar for just 1 run off 8 balls in the final over of the power-play.
After a strong start, RCB found themselves at 64 for 2 after the power-play, thanks to Mukesh Kumar's impressive wicket maiden in the sixth over. Vipraj Nigam then claimed the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli, who scored 22 runs off 14 balls, in the seventh over.
Following Kohli's dismissal, RCB's captain Rajat Patidar attempted to keep the momentum going with a six off the next over, alongside new batter Liam Livingstone. However, RCB continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.
Livingstone was dismissed by Mohit Sharma for 4 runs off 6 balls in the tenth over, leading to wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma joining Patidar. At the halfway mark, RCB was at 91 for 4.
Jitesh Sharma struggled to score and was eventually dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav's googly, managing only 3 runs off 11 balls. Krunal Pandya then came in, but after a fighting innings of 25 runs, Patidar fell to Kuldeep Yadav, caught by KL Rahul while attempting a slog in the 15th over.
Krunal Pandya followed soon after, dismissed by Viraj Nigam for 18 runs off 18 balls in the 18th over, causing RCB to lose their earlier momentum. However, Tim David turned the tide in the 19th over, hitting Axar Patel for 17 runs.
David and Bhuvneshwar Kumar added 38 runs for the eighth wicket in the final two overs, with David scoring 32 runs in that period, finishing not out at 37 runs off 20 balls, which included two fours and four sixes, helping RCB reach a total of 163 runs.
For Delhi Capitals, Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam each took two wickets, with figures of 2 for 17 and 2 for 18, respectively. Mohit Sharma and Mukesh Kumar also contributed with one wicket each, while Axar Patel and Mitchell Starc went wicketless.
